A key question for the faithful in the church today is, “What are we stewards of now and what are we called to be stewarding in the future?”
We have many active groups within our membership and support many worthwhile activities. We hear about them through annual reports and announcements, but these are just numbers and accounting. Very important, to be sure, but not necessarily the stuff that creates a joyful giver. We are more than the PTA or booster club. The work we do here is to the glory and honor of God the Father, through the teachings of his son Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit. So, it is the spiritual aspect of our good work that I am hoping we can focus on, a little bit more, during this season.
In VBS each year, part of the curriculum includes something called (for instance) “God sightings”, where the children are challenged to recognize God’s presence in their daily lives. We are sure that happens in church and in your personal life also. You may describe your ‘God sighting’ in a Sunday Minute for Mission. Write it out and we’ll print it for the Sunday bulletin and each service. If you wish, read it out loud or we will recruit a reader. What has your church organization or group been doing for the Kingdom of God, our church? Let Tina Wallace or Rev. Matlack know if you would like to volunteer to scribe a Minute for Mission. Time is running – we have only until the middle of November.
I would like to end with this piece of scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:4 (KJV) Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
